Around Avondale
Avondale began as Coldwater. In 1880, William "Billy" Moore settled near the Agua Fria River and named his settlement Coldwater, and in the 1880s he established the Coldwater Stage Station, one of the earliest stage stations in the region. Avondale was incorporated in 1946. Today Coldwater Golf Park is on Clubhouse Drive.
I-10 crosses the north side of the city, and the Gila River crosses the south, joined by the Agua Fria. Goodyear borders Avondale on the west, Litchfield Park on the north, and Phoenix and Tolleson on the east. Friendship Park and Gateway Pavilions are both on McDowell Road, Estrella Mountain Community College is on Dysart Road, and the Avondale Civic Center Library is on Civic Center Drive.
